It's one day before the 2012 London Olympic Games opening ceremony and I'm in the middle of the Mediterranean.  What went wrong?  Did I get a good deal on a really bad Priceline.com flight itinerary?  Did I retire from coaching just before the Olympics? Or is this all part of the master plan for success?

Well, the answer of course is that I've retired from coaching.  Hung it up.  Done.  Outta here.  I'm going to concentrate on raising Mallorcan sheep who produce a phenomenal wool that you just have to feel to believe how soft it is.  Our first batch should arrive in the states in time for Christmas!

OK, that's not true.  At all.  I'm here in Mallorca (which is an island off the coast of Spain if you've never heard of it) with the USA ...

The Long Road to London

The 2012 London Olympics are just 115 days away!  As we approach these final 4 months, the previous years of work come into sharp focus.  I have been working with the USA Cycling endurance track program, and more specifically with the women's team pursuit program for over 2 years now in preparation for London.

Going in Circles

On Friday night, I went to the Boulder Indoor Cycling velodrome to participate in their First Friday racing.  I also brought along my GoPro Hero HD camera to catch some of the action.  Check out what it looks like to ride 35 miles per hour on a very small velodrome!

A Decade of Sports

Since 2001, I’ve been in charge of the Sport Science department at Boulder Center for Sports Medicine.  Over those 10 years I have seen a significant progression in the technology that we use both in the lab and in the field to help athletes perform better.  When I first started working here at BCSM, my internet access was via dial-up modem access and I probably got and sent a couple of emails a day!  Today, we have wireless access throughout the clinic and smart phones that allow me to track and keep up with athletes that I coach, and I typically receive and send 40-50 emails per day.  In terms of coaching athletes, we have made huge strides in the past decade.  In the early days of my coaching career, training schedules were hand written sheets of paper with very b ...
